The Elgiva - Home

BuryFields 8pm Friday 25 April

Warming up for the June festival we have the the latest in the BURYFields Sessions with original 80's Ska band The Equators headlining at the Elgiva Theatre.  Formed in the Late 70s, and signed to Stiff records home of Madness and Ian Dury, their 1981 Album Hot! remains a highly regarded quality album that has since gained cult status amongst true fans of the genre.

After years of extensive touring, including the US and Europe, the band eventually split but now 30 years on the band have reformed with founding members Donald, Rocky and Leo and are joined by 4 fresh new faces to make up the latest 7 piece line up.  Last year they performed at Nozstock festival, The London International Ska Festival, Shambala Festival, Folkstone Ska Splash, Blackpool Ska Festival and many more.

Expect a high energy blend of Ska and Reggae with melody and groove.

 Dave Wakeling (The Beat)

"The Equators were brilliant….. Prince Buster was part of their own heritage. It was from The Equators that The Beat learned to stylize this blend in a soulful, delicate manner. It was from The Equators that we learned lightness & depth of touch in playing’ this music."

The Untouchables lead vocalist, Jerry Miller

"Man, it was because of bands like The Equators that we formed The Untouchables. We were very big fans of 2 Tone, but with The Equators, that’s where it was at with us because it was so groovin’ & soulful."

Also on the same bill we have Chesham favourites The Almays.  Formed in 2011 the bands musical influences are very eclectic and this is reflected in their music. The Almays always aim to create great sounds and to get your foot tapping. Once experienced they hope the sound of The Almays will stay with you.

It's all about the tunes.
